OLFAKTOMAT®-955

Determination of odor intensity

“How strong is the odor” measuring principle:

The OLFAKTOMAT®-955 controls the presentation of odor carriers by means of static gas dilution and detects the sensory perception caused in humans.

Application:

The odor analysis carried out with the OLFAKTOMAT®-955 has two tasks as an effect-related measuring method:

  1. the determination of human olfactory capacity, with known odorant concentrations serving as defined stimulus intensities and thus as measurement scale points.
  2. the determination of unknown odorant concentrations, whereby the human sense of smell
    serves as a detector (e.g. xx mg/m³).

Since odor sensations can be evoked even if the odorant concentration is below the detection limit of chemical-physical measurement methods, there is no alternative to detection with the human nose.

Determination of odors and odor thresholds:

  • Room and exhaust air
  • Immission, emission
  • Solvents and their mixtures (paints and varnishes, cosmetics, cleaning agents, beverages, etc.)
  • Solids (plastics, recycling materials, furniture, textiles, floor coverings, packaging, food and animal feed, soil samples, etc.)
